Why do people find it NECESSARY to spit their gum out on a sidewalk that's FREQUENTLY used!

I stepped in someone's yellow gum outside the door to my work and now not ONLY does my shoe stick the floor (my fairly NEW SHOES), but I also have to smell the scent of gum that was chewed by some JERK!!!!
